Connecting Rod.

Detail of the lower end of the connecting rod.  The wooden rod is prevented from splitting when the screw is inserted by fitting a small piece of brass tubing. As I had rubber grommets of suitable size I decided to use these instead of leather washers to provide a flexible joint. A metal washer is required under the screw-head.
