Rewind handles.

Top view shows the hardwood bearing for the rewind handle.  The cut-away in the spool support was necessary to allow the commercial spool, which is slightly larger in diameter than the dimensions given in the plans, to drop into place.

Below are the two handles required if you intend to use commercial spools as well as home-made ones.   Constructional methods are not critical.  The shafts and handles are made of dowel.  The hexagon extension has, in this case, been filed to fit the commercial spool and is of a standard size.  If you find it difficult to produce a good hexagon shape a piece of Allen key could be inserted into the dowel, in which case, a brass ferrule to reinforce the dowel would be necessary.
